There are moments in a person's life when a thought becomes a deeper search and a desire begins to take the form of a calling. The desire to dedicate oneself to Christ and follow the path of monasticism is a decision that requires prayer, discernment, and an honest examination of the heart.
But what does it mean to want to become a monk?
It does not simply mean that I wish to leave the world behind or distance myself from life's difficulties. It means that I want to seek Christ with all my heart. To make prayer my way of life, obedience an exercise in freedom, and humility the foundation of my existence.
This path is not without struggle. There will be difficulties, doubts, and moments when I will need to examine my motives once again. That is why this decision should not rest solely on initial enthusiasm, but should mature through prayer, spiritual guidance, and genuine acquaintance with monastic life.
I do not need to know all the answers today. But I do need to be honest before God and with myself.
If this desire continues to remain alive within me, I can take concrete steps: visit a monastery, participate in its services, speak with an experienced spiritual father, and become familiar with the daily life of the monks.
I do not need either to rush or to keep postponing everything out of fear.
I need to pray and move forward with discernment.
And then, in the peace of prayer, I can ask Christ to enlighten me, so that I may understand which path I am called to follow.
For the essence of monastic life is not simply to leave something behind, but to seek Christ and freely offer Him my entire life.
