The Holy Synodal and Stavropegic Monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi is located in Polydendri, Attica (32nd km of Athens-Lamia Old National Road, on Archbishop Christodoulos Street).
The Holy Monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi is connected to the late His Eminence Metropolitan Kallinikos of Piraeus, who was the founder and ktetor of the Monastery. The Holy Monastery was founded in 1973 by Elder Archimandrite Christodoulos Paraskevaides (the later Archbishop of Athens and all Greece) and Ambrosios Lenis (the current former Metropolitan of Kalavryta).
The Abbot of the Monastery today is Archimandrite Ephraim Panaousis.
To serve the functional needs of the fathers and pilgrims of the Monastery, smaller chapels have been established, dedicated to the following Saints: 1) The Dormition of the Theotokos, 2) Saint Kallinikos, 3) Saint Anthony, 4) Saint Gregory the Theologian, 5) Saint Nicholas, 6) Saint Dionysios of Zakynthos and 7) The Newly-Appeared Holy Fathers and Mothers.
At the Holy Monastery, the services of our Church and regular night Divine Liturgies are held.
More specifically: every Wednesday at 6 p.m., the service of Vespers and the Holy Paraklesis to Panagia are held. There follows an evening talk on patristic texts. Every Sunday, the Orthros service and the Divine Liturgy are held, followed by a sermon in the Archontariki.
The Holy Monastery serves pilgrims with the sacrament of Holy Confession.
Throughout the year, it welcomes pilgrims, as well as organized groups, with the aim of participating in the Holy services, getting to know the Holy Monastery, and gaining spiritual benefit.
The Holy Monastery's handicrafts include the publication of church books, the creation of incense, and the production of traditional products. The Holy Monastery houses an exhibition hall with handicrafts of the Fathers of the Monastery as well as our publications.
The purpose of the Holy Monastery, like every other Orthodox monastic community, is the perfection in Christ of the brothers who reside there and the ministry of the spiritual and other needs of the pilgrim brothers and sisters who in every way seek the help of our Monastery.
Since the early years of its establishment, it has served in the field of charity and missionary work (native and abroad).
For this purpose, it has created teams that minister in prisons and detention centers for young drug addicts. Since 2012, it has also created two missionary teams in Uganda, while every year it has created teams of doctors, students and other specialists who go to the African country to offer to people in need.
The journey of the Monastery, by the grace of God, continues with the prayers of each one who loves and respects the Church and Monasticism.
In the Holy Monastery you can participate in the Holy services, worship in the central Church of the Monastery, worship the Holy Relics kept in the Holy Monastery, visit the chapels of Saint Dionysius of Zakynthos and the Newly-Appeared Holy Fathers and Mothers and the exhibition of the Monastery's handicrafts. In the area of the Archontariki, a gathering is held for organized groups of pilgrims, followed by a spiritual talk. Also, for organized groups, prior consultation by telephone is always required.
